Awards Some of our 65 AwardsOver the past fifteen years, Woody Nook has collected more than 200 awards, including 3 Trophies, 30+ Gold medals and 40+ Silver medals in some of the country’s most prestigious wine competitions, not just in Western Australia, but also in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Hong Kong, the USA and the United Kingdom.

With congratulations to our winemaker/viticulturist Neil Gallagher, we are very proud to announce that 2009 has seen Woody Nook receive three trophies – for our Cabernet Sauvignon 2007! In addition to a gold medal, this wine was awarded a trophy for the ‘Best Australian Dry Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon’ at Australia’s second largest wine show, in Rutherglen, Victoria. Shortly afterwards we learned that the judges at the Australian Cool Climate Wine Show in Murrumbateman had not only awarded this wine a gold medal but also a trophy for the ‘Best Cabernet Sauvignon’. In the same week we were advised by the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London that it had won a 'Best in Class' Gold Medal there too, plus the Warren Winiarski Trophy for the Best Cabernet Sauvignon. All those accolades are in addition to being voted ‘Best in Class’ by Winestate Magazine in a recent Cabernet tasting; and being a runner up in the ‘Best Estate-Grown Red Wine’ category at the Western Australian Wine Industry Association’s Awards in November 2008. The judges at the International Wine & Spirit Competition made these notes about this wine: "Saturated glossy crimson red colour. Wonderful briar/bramble and mulberry fruit aromas, coupled with notes of cigar box, vanillin and smoke. Beautiful precise fruit definition in the mouth with super fine grained tannins and a silver thread of minerality which couples with lovely cedary integrated oak and notes of herb and more juicy fruit. Wonderfully sculptured, this is a hedonistic and very serious wine indeed."

A comprehensive, up to date list of our medal wins will be 'loaded' soon, but in the meantime, we show below the amazing medal count of our Gallagher’s Choice Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 (there are very few cases left - please contact us direct about these) followed by two judges’ assessments of this wine and other 2007 successes:

This is what the judges said of this wine at the 2006 Winewise Small Vigneron Awards: "This wine shows a range of classic Cabernet Sauvignon characteristics from cassis and tobacco right through to a suggestion of leaf. The palate is particularly long and the tannins are fine-grained. Very Stylish. Highly Recommended."

These are the notes of the judging panel at the "Three Region Cabernet Tasting" conducted by Winewise: "Outstanding: 2004 Woody Nook Gallagher's Choice (Margaret River) shows powerful cassis aromatics together with a subtle dusty complexity. The palate is firm, satisfying and strongly varietal. Another great success for this very consistent producer."
